PA Latest News:

AUTUMN 2016

THE FUND - The introduction of the yearly sub of £50 per child worked very well last year and will therefore continue. The PA account stands at £679 and spend was approximately £1,800, a large part of which was the QMC visit and Bonfire Night.

HALLOWEEN PARTY - It was decided that it would be fun to resurrect this. It falls on the first Monday back after half term. Could happen straight from Art Club, 5:30pm - 7:00pm? Already confirmed with Mrs O’Dell that this is ok and any extra children wishing to stay for Art Club should inform Adam in the office. Parents to decorate the hall while Mrs P decorates the children!! March down the road dressed as creepy characters whilst doing the Thriller dance!

BONFIRE NIGHT - This year falls on a Saturday. It has been confirmed that Mr and Mrs Miller are happy to have it again at Millfield. The same format as last year. However, it was agreed to up the spend on the fireworks to lengthen the display. Start time approx 5pm. Full details nearer the time.

TRIPS - It has been decided that all out of school visits will now be organised solely by the school to tie in with the curriculum and ensure staff presence at all times. However, the PA has offered to provide additional funding as and when required for a particular visit or guest, e.g. Circusology.

CHARITABLE FUNDRAISING - All agreed that it would be nice to focus funding efforts on smaller charities where the children can see and hear more finite details on how the money raised is used. For example Aquinoe. All agreed the children benefitted hugely from the experiences associated with raising money for this cause. The Swimathon was a huge success, all round support for running this event again for another charity if possible. Laps For Lapland also highly popular. Would still like to support the bigger national charities with non-uniform/pyjama days etc. Try and use these activities to publicise the school via newspaper articles. A suggestion was made by Andrew Cooney that each house could come up with their own charity to support and we rotate each term/year? Other possible events to include Orienteering/sponsored walk/treasure hunt.

FUNDRAISING PROCEEDS - With a view to involving the local community a percentage of money raised from previous events could be donated to the village hall committee and/or local cricket club. This could help raise the profile of the school and support facilities the school actually use. Dave Fowler offered to liaise with community members.

QUIZ NIGHT - All agreed it was a fun night and if possible should be repeated. It was suggested the Spring Term would be the ideal time as there is less happening than in the other two terms. A suggestion was made that the previous winners write a bonus round as opposed to the tasting round to maximise the profits made. Ticket prices should be higher and sold to the wider community. Format worked well last term, we just need more people!

PARENTS' NIGHT OUT - Would people like a formal get together at the end of the year or are we happy with the more informal pub meal as during the disco evening? Suggestion was made to have a school table at the Dove Cottage Ball and/or the Colston Bassett Village Ball.

CAROL SERVICE - A lovely idea suggested last year. Agreed to liaise with school to see if this is possible with the work load of this term as the children need to learn the carols!

OTHER BUSINESS - As usual there will be post Nativity food and drink combined with raffle and a stall of crafts. All proceeds to go back to school pot as only family attend this event. Easter Egg Hunt as per last year, Sport’s Day picnic and End of Term Concert Cream Tea with the final picnic on the playing field.
